United Talent Staffing is seeking an experienced Personal Lines Underwriter for an exciting direct hire opportunity with an established specialty insurance organization.
This position is ideal for an underwriting professional with a strong background in Managing General Agency (MGA) or wholesale insurance who enjoys evaluating risks, building relationships with agents and brokers, and supporting profitable portfolio growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review, evaluate, and underwrite personal lines insurance submissions.
  • Analyze risk exposures, coverage needs, loss histories, and pricing to make informed underwriting decisions.
  • Evaluate new business and renewal submissions in accordance with established underwriting guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with insurance agents and wholesale partners.
  • Review policy terms, coverage options, and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare and communicate underwriting decisions, quotes, and coverage recommendations.
  • Identify opportunities to develop and grow profitable personal lines business.
  • Maintain accurate underwriting records and documentation.
  • Collaborate with agents, brokers, and internal teams to provide exceptional service.
  • Support business development and portfolio growth throughout the Northeast.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of personal lines underwriting experience.
  • Experience working within an MGA or wholesale insurance organization is required.
  • Active Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance license required.
  • Established professional relationships with insurance agents or brokers in the Northeast.
  • Strong knowledge of personal lines insurance products, risk assessment, coverage evaluation, and pricing.
  • Experience reviewing submissions and making underwriting decisions.
  • Ability to develop and maintain productive agency relationships.
  • Strong analytical, communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Important: Candidates whose experience is exclusively within retail insurance agencies, insurance carriers, or Managing General Underwriters (MGUs) will not be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are highly desirable but not required:
  • An established book of personal lines insurance business.
  • Existing agency and broker relationships in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Massachusetts, or the broader New England region.
  • Experience managing and growing a profitable personal lines portfolio.
  • Experience developing new business opportunities within wholesale or MGA environments.
  • Demonstrated success building long-term agency partnerships.
An existing book of business is preferred but not required. Candidates with strong Northeast agency relationships are encouraged to apply even if they do not currently manage a transferable book of business.
Candidates are not required to have relationships in every Northeast state listed.
Work Location & Schedule
Preferred office locations include:
  • Plainview, NY
  • Montvale, NJ
  • Mt. Laurel, NJ
This is a full-time position offering a hybrid work schedule.
Candidates located near one of the offices are expected to work onsite two days per week.
Remote candidates may also be considered based on their qualifications, experience, and established industry relationships.
Compensation & Benefits
Base Salary: $80,000–$95,000 annually, plus bonus opportunities.
Compensation will be based on relevant underwriting experience, MGA or wholesale background, established agency relationships, and existing business portfolio.
