United Talent is immediately hiring an Accounting Assistant for a local university!
This position supports the university’s finance department by assisting with accounts payable, payroll processing, and general accounting functions. The role focuses on maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, supporting audits, and ensuring compliance with institutional policies and standard accounting practices.
This is a fast-paced, detail-oriented position that requires strong organizational skills, accuracy, and the ability to manage multiple financial tasks while maintaining strict confidentiality.
Job Duties
• Process accounts payable invoices, ensuring accuracy, proper coding, and timely payment
• Assist with payroll processing, including time entry verification, adjustments, and payroll audits
• Maintain and reconcile vendor accounts and resolve discrepancies
• Prepare and process check runs, ACH payments, and payroll-related transactions
• Assist with employee reimbursements and expense reporting
• Maintain accurate financial records and documentation in accounting systems
• Reconcile general ledger accounts and assist with monthly closing procedures
• Support preparation of financial reports and spreadsheets
• Respond to vendor and employee inquiries regarding payments and payroll
• Ensure compliance with university policies, procedures, and applicable regulations
• Assist with internal and external audits by gathering and organizing required documentation
• Perform data entry and maintain organized electronic and physical filing systems
• Monitor deadlines and ensure timely completion of financial processes
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting
• Provide general administrative support to the accounting department
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial and employee information

Work Environment
This position operates primarily in an office setting within a university environment and requires extensive use of computers, accounting software, and office equipment. Work involves frequent interaction with faculty, staff, vendors, and administrative personnel.

Pay and Schedule
$18.00 – $22.00 per hour (depending on experience)
Monday – Friday
Full-time schedule during standard business hours

Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• Minimum two (2) years of experience in accounting, accounts payable, and payroll required
• Experience processing payroll and AP transactions in a business or institutional setting
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and accounting software systems
• Strong numerical and analytical skills
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information
• Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening

Additional Qualifications
• Experience working in a university or public-sector environment preferred
• Knowledge of general accounting principles and payroll regulations
• Ability to reconcile accounts and identify discrepancies
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to meet deadlines in a structured, deadline-driven environment

Physical Requirements
• Primarily sedentary office work with extended periods of computer use
• Occasional standing, walking, and lifting of files or materials up to approximately 25 pounds
• Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English
