United Talent Staffing is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist for a temp-to-hire opportunity. This role supports payroll operations for a high-volume, multi-state workforce of over 3,000 employees across the U.S. and Canada.
The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for full-cycle payroll processing, manual calculations, compliance with state labor laws, and troubleshooting payroll system issues. This position requires strong foundational payroll knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Functions (Other Duties as Assigned)

Process full-cycle payroll using ADP

Perform manual payroll calculations including overtime, final pay, and PTO payouts

Review and validate payroll inputs and outputs for accuracy

Ensure compliance with state-specific labor laws (including California regulations)

Review timecards for salaried and hourly employees

Generate manual checks when required

Troubleshoot payroll system issues and correct discrepancies

Support audits and year-end payroll processes

Respond to internal payroll inquiries in a timely and professional manner

Maintain accurate payroll documentation and reporting
Location: Remote (Must Work Pacific Time Hours)
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM PST
Pay Rate: Targeting $30.00 per hour (Based on Experience)
Contract Length: 6 Months (High Likelihood of Extension; Conversion Possible)

Qualifications
Required:

Strong foundational knowledge of payroll processes and compliance (especially California)

Experience processing high-volume payroll

Ability to perform manual payroll calculations accurately

Strong attention to detail and ability to validate own work

Ability to work independently and problem-solve without step-by-step direction

Must be able to work Pacific Time hours
