United Talent Staffing is seeking a Utility Laborer to support daily operations of a public water company by assisting with water line installation, maintenance, meter services, and general utility tasks. This role involves fieldwork across multiple service areas and requires the ability to work as part of a crew to ensure safe, reliable water service for customers. The position requires flexibility to respond to emergency situations as they arise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with basic water line installation and maintenance (experience preferred).
- Perform flagging and traffic control activities when required.
- Analyze storage tanks to confirm accurate water levels.
- Diagnose issues with older or damaged water meters.
- Uninstall and install water meters as needed.
- Identify areas where damaged pipes may be causing service disruptions.
- Operate an excavator to dig ditches for new piping installations (where qualified).
- Travel to various service areas with assigned work crews based on operational needs.
- Read water meters and accurately enter and report utility consumption data.
- Participate in company training programs to learn and perform all job duties effectively.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned company vehicles and equipment.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and other adverse conditions.
- Respond to emergency water line breaks, leaks, or repairs as required, including call-outs outside of normal scheduled hours.
Pay, Schedule & On-Call Requirements:
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- On-Call Rotation: One weekend per month
- Pay Rate: $15.00–$17.00 per hour, based on experience
- On-call compensation includes two (2) paid hours for Saturday and two (2) paid hours for Sunday, regardless of whether a call-out occurs.
- In the event of a water system emergency (e.g., leaks, line breaks, or service disruptions), employees may be required to report to work at any time, regardless of whether they are scheduled for on-call duty that week. Emergency response availability is a condition of employment.
Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (required).
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Prior experience in water line work, utility labor, construction, or a related field preferred.
- Flagging/traffic control experience is a plus.
- Ability to perform physical labor in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
- Willingness and ability to respond to emergency call-outs as needed.
- Willingness to travel to different service areas as required.
- Ability to work safely as part of a team and follow company policies and procedures.
